NEW: Buy on Board Food Choices WIN: @AmericanAir USB Card with Free Gogo Wifi Code

I was on a flight the other day, sitting in coach, and was glancing through the Buy on Board menu and noticed that it was updated March 1 and that there were some new food choices.

Over the last few months, chef Marcus Samuelsson has collaborated with American to enhance their premium class food service.  Now you’ll be able to try a few of his New American Table creations in the back of the plane: some new sandwiches and a new cookie have been added to the food-for-purchase menu.

Here’s a look at what’s been added:

Brisket, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwich

New: Brisket Lettuce Tomato Sandwich

California Cob Sandwich

Triple Shot Cookie: oats, cranberries, chocolate

To make way for these new choices, some long time staples of the buy-on-board menu have be dropped.

Gone: Gourmet Chocolate Waffle

Gone: Chocolate Waffle

Gone: Turkey and Chutney Sandwich

Gone: Chutney Turkey Sandwich

Gone: in flight Delights

I’m going to miss this snack box. It was sold on flights from DFW and Chicago into LAX and SFO.  I guess it wasn’t a popular item.

Gone: in flite delights

Gone: Boston Market Carver Sandwiches

I’ve never been a fan of these sandwiches. In theory, it seems like they ought to be appetizing, but the reality was much different…as Kurtis Blow used to say, “Baby You’ve Got To Go”!

Reader Giveaway

Congratulations to Dave G, he’s the randomly selected winner of Monday’s Reader Giveaway!  Yesterday I asked readers. “Have you ever won contest, sweepstakes, or giveaway?”. This was Dave’s answer “I never win anything. NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! well… there was that one time I almost… NEVER!” He might want to book a flight to Vegas, because his luck has turned!

Reader Drawing: Win an American Airlines USB Card and Free Code for Gogo Wifi

The AA social media team was nice enough to give me five USB cards with free codes for Gogo Inflight Wifi.   I’ve given away three so far,  and now I’m giving away the remaining two – one today, one tomorrow.

I always travel with a couple of Odwalla snack bars in my laptop bag and take a large bottled water with me on every flight.  When I’m on vacation, I always take along some Haribo Gold Bears – they’re my favorite in-flight indulgence (besides the baked-on-board cookie, of course).

To enter today’s drawing, just share your favorite in-flight snack.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll have a random drawing to pick a winner and will announce the results in Wednesday’s post.  One entry per person. The deadline to enter is tonight, March 20, at 11:59PM Pacific.

Good luck!

  1. Haribo Gold bears are great, but I always, and I mean ALWAYS fly with the 12 flavor gummi bears from sunflower markets! As a matter of fact, I’ve got to go get some right now for my flight this afternoon!

  2. If I’m traveling with my wife, it’ll be something healthy like fruit or nuts. If I’m traveling solo, it’ll be something more along the lines of chips or cookies.

  3. I’m probably the only one but I did really like the Boston Carver sandwiches. I’m also partial to Red Vines.

  4. I have a loonggggg flight coming up from hong kong to ny on AA. Could def use one of these to stay up to date when blogging!! My fave in flight snack is the cheese platters

  5. Sometimes I bring almonds as a healthy snack and always ask the people next to me if they’re allergic to peanuts – just in case. As far as an American Airlines snack goes, once I tried the Turkey and Chutney sandwich. It was delicious.

  6. I absolutely agree that the turkey and chutney sandwich was great (and the boston carver terrible). I’m sad to see it go!

  7. A bagel or two from that Brooklyn Deli place in the AA terminal at JFK. The taste of home at 30,000 feet…
