Photos: American Airlines new Korean Menu Items

American launched service from DFW to Seoul, Korea today.  This is really exciting news because it’s not just a new route for American, this is also a new destination!

They’ll be serving the route with a 3 class configured 777-200.  I met someone that works in the inflight services department that was responsible for planning the meal service on this new route. She told me that in their focus group tests Korean customers indicated a preference for stainless steel chopsticks over disposable wood or plastic ones, so that’s what they were going to offer on the route.

She also mentioned that they were developing a Korean menu for the route, but at the time it was still a work in progress so she didn’t have any details.  Now that launch day is here and the menu has been finalized, I have some photos of items that will be offered in First and Business class.

  1. hey mr. geek..

its me again.. heres a Q .. so remember i got the instant gold status , and i get to keep it for 2 years if i fly 6000 miles. So i am.. To Kawaii from JFK. Its about 2500 to lax and 2500 to hawaii…one way.. so heres the thing. I got a 10 upgrades from the offer (for free of course). My question to you is, from jfk to lax (6 upgrades) on a 767, and then from there a 757 to hawaii. Should i use 6 to LAX and then no upgrade to hawaii , and then on the way back use it on the 767 again ? bottom line is i only have 10 upgrades, what is the best product to fly in ? i was thinking that the way home (to ny) since it is a red eye i would want the comfort and sleep.. but im not sure. Any ideas or advice would help. Im on vacation from med school for about 2 months and am looking forward to this vacation. Have an AWSOME DAY!

    1. @ eric medstudent – I would definitely use the upgrades from JFK to LAX and LAX to JFK.

The service on the JFK to LAX is a much better experience than the LAX to LIH flight. Much better meal, better pillow and blankets, Samsung Galaxy tablets, sundae cart. You’ll even get access to the Admirals Club. The transcon flights are my favorite. You even get the best flight attendants on those routes. And with the return flight being a red eye, it’s a much better use of the upgrades.

However, the JFK to LAX route can be a tough route to score the upgrade, so go ahead and put in for the LAX to LIH upgrade just in case the JFK to LAX doesn’t clear. You can always have them take you off the LAX to LIH list after your JFK to LAX leg clears.

Good luck and enjoy your flights!

    1. @ JW – Yeah, I guess that the only dish that’s obviously Korean. I was surprised that they didn’t offer a bibimbap bowl. Thanks for reading!
