American is offering reduced peak season MileSAAver awards to Hawaii.

Limited Time Special to Hawaii!

Participating Airline: American Airlines

Award: Reduced Mileage Offer

Travel Dates: April 10, 2013, through May 20, 2013

Ticketing Dates: March 19, 2013, through April 9, 2013

Limited Time Offer: Want to swim, surf, or just soak up the sun?

Book an Economy Class award for travel on American Airlines, for only 20,000 miles each way, to Hawaii from the continental U.S., Alaska and Canada.

These awards can be booked online, so no need to call reservations an incur a fee. Unless you have AAdvantage elite status and the miles are coming from your account, award reservations booked within 21 days of travel are subject to a $75 fee.

A round-trip MileSAAver Peak coach award to Hawaii will normally cost you 45,000 miles, with this offer you’ll be able to travel for 40,000 miles round-trip.

Considering that it’s coach, and that American has been offering some pretty decent fares from many cities, it might not be the best use of your miles, but at least you’re saving 5,000 miles.

  1. Maybe because for 20,000 fewer miles you will have much warmer beaches than Japan? Probably many other reasons but that’s the only one I would need.

  2. 40,000 for coach?…not a great deal, even if you have a citi AA card and get an extra 10% points back…until just recently it was only 35,000 and unless your willing to pay an extra $75 you only have btween april 20 and may 20 to go. AA also tends to give crap flights under saver awards always leaving butt early or arriving late evening, I know and I live in their hub DFW, I hate to see what crappy connections other cities have to choose from.
