A look at oneworld member AirBerlin’s Business Class
Even though it’s been almost a year since AirBerlin joined the oneworld Alliance, I don’t think I’ve read a single trip report about their Business Class product yet, not even from Ben. An AirBerlin trip report is kind of a rarity.
Before they entered oneworld, AirBerlin was a discount carrier and they didn’t even have a premium class cabin. Despite upgrading their service, I’m not sure that that the low cost carrier image has gone away, and maybe that’s why I haven’t read any reviews of their First or Business Class offerings.
They connect to destinations throughout Germany and Europe. Depending upon your final destination, flying AirBerlin can be a great way to avoid London Heathrow. From their hubs in Dusseldorf and Berlin, they offer service between Germany and five U.S. cities: New York JFK, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Fort Meyers, FL.
And if you’re looking to redeem an AAdvantage Award to Europe, they’re a great alternative to British Airways (and those pricey BA fuel surcharges). You can even book AirBerlin award travel online at AA.com.
If you spend any amount of time in the AAdvantage forums on Milepoint, then you probably know DestinationDavid (it’s no exaggeration to say that he is one of the most knowledgeable and most helpful people in the forum). Well, last week during all the merger madness, he posted a trip report on his blog of his recent Berlin to JFK flight in AirBerlin’s Business Class.
As I said, it’s not often that you find AirBerlin’s Business Class product reviewed, so if you haven’t already come across his review yet, go here to read it.
Speaking of AirBerlin, Jake Redman posted a video review of AirBerlin’s Dusseldorf lounge this weekend. You can find it here on his ModHop blog.

I am doing JFK to Berlin on Wednesday in J. 40k Avios one way plus an astonishing £1.50 in taxes! (Well, astonishing to anyone used to BA taxes!)
Cool roundup of Air Berlin product. It has been a mystery to me for quite some time so thanks for pointing it all out.
@Raffles awesome redemption!
I tried to find award space on their new business class seat for ages. No luck. Perhaps they could do us all a favour and release some space!
