oneworld MegaDo giveaway: First look at the new American Airlines 777-300ER cabin
Congratulations to Phil, the winner of yesterday’s oneworld MegaDo Giveaway! Yesterday I asked readers whether or not they pay attention to the inflight safety video. I confessed that I don’t pay attention even thought I know that I should. Phil said that he pays attention when he’s on a new aircraft or when he on one that he hasn’t been on in awhile. If I’m ever on a flight that runs into trouble, I hope I’m sitting next to Phil:-)
You’ve probably seen the news already, but yesterday American released some renderings of interior of the new Boeing 777-300ER that they’ll be operating later this year. From the press release:
American is the first U.S. airline to order and take delivery of the 777-300ER. The new aircraft is designed to enhance the customer experience and includes fully lie-flat First and Business Class seats, plus seating plans that will allow American to offer a premium product in the Main Cabin and Wi-Fi capability to keep customers connected while traveling internationally.
Here’s a look at the First Class cabin with enhanced Flagship Suites, with standard power ports and a docking station for your iPod or iPhone. UPDATE: A Thank You to David for sending in a clarification via the comments section, “FYI, the ipod docking station you’ve identified in the F class photo is actually a handheld remote control for the suite. The AA rep clarified during the MegaDO presentation since many thought it was an ipod docking station.”
Here’s the Business Class cabin with new fully lie flat seats.
Here’s coach with larger video screen and standard power connections.
This is a look at the new self service snack bar available to premium class passengers.
Their first one will be put to work in December on their route between DFW and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I saw Seth’s post over at the Wandering Aramean and he’s floated the idea that American may be moving to a 3+4+3 seating configuration rather than the 2+5+2 setup that they have now on their 777s. I hope it’s not the case, I like that you can select the 2 seat section and have some privacy, if you’re traveling with someone else it’s a lot more pleasant that way.
The first and business class sections look great. American has really focused on upgrading their premium product. And it’s not just the seats, they’ve made improvements to the meal service by bringing in new chefs to consult on their menus, they’ve introduced new duvets and pillows, new amenity kits, and even pajamas.
So, that brings us to today’s giveaway.
To celebrate the first ever oneworld MegaDo, I’m giving away a different prize in a random drawing each day this week!
Even if you’re not going to the oneworld MegaDo, this is your chance to win some AAdvantage Geek gear.
Today’s prize: One of the brand new Premium Class Amenity Kits! The next time you’re on a flight to Chicago, just pull out your very own amenity kit, and you’ll step off the flight as Flagship fresh as a First Class passenger on a flight from London.
To enter, all you have to do is post your answer to this question in the comments section.
Would you actually wear the pajamas? Or would you just dress comfortably for your flight and sleep with your own clothing?
There’s not a right or wrong response. Just submit your answer. I’ll have a random drawing Monday morning and the winner will be announced Monday. One entry per person. The deadline to enter is Sunday night, January 29 at 11:59PM Pacific.

Good luck in the drawing!!
I definitely wear the pajamas when offered in F, I don’t see what AA’s would be any different.
Pajamas – absolutely!
I’d definitely just dress comfortably in my own clothing. I don’t want to have to change.
I’ll wear pajamas if the flight’s maybe longer than 5 hours, if not, I’ll just stay in comfortable clothes.
Own clothing
Probably different than most folks, but I would feel comfortable sleeping/napping in my own clothing. I usually change into a t-shirt/sweatshirt/sweatpants shortly after take off, and change back into my regular clothing prior to landing. I just don’t really like the “new clothes” kind of feeling and smell. Perhaps it’s just me. Though i’ll still take it home with me as a souvenir/collection.
I do a combo. I wear a comfortable shirt but put on the pajama bottoms.
I usually bring my own pajamas. But if I get pjs, I’ll wear those instead.
I would wear the pajamas. That way, I can wear something more stylish on the plane and not have bulky PJs in my carry on.
I’d wear them! It’s part of the experience!
Definitely my own clothes.
I’d probably try the pajamas the first one or two times, just to see if I feel “special”, hah. But then the hype will wear out and will probably just wear my own clothes.
With the pajamas, you can wear something nice, and so long as you have a place to put your clothes to keep them from getting wrinkled, heck yes I’d wear the pajamas!
I’d rather wear my own comfortable clothes. Which may or may not resemble pjs!!
I heart pjs!
i would wear the pajamas and slippers!
I would wear comfy clothes, changing in those tiny bathrooms is not worth it.
I’d wear them…if only to maintain the demand for them
I would dress comfortably, it is too much effor to change in the tiny bathrooms
I would wear my own clothes
I’d give the pajamas a shot. Seems like having fresher clothes at arrival would be nice, but I don’t want to pack my own pajamas just for the flight.
I would definitely wear them.
I would wear them.
Of course I would wear the pjs!
Dress comfortably – as I always have. Wear lightweight, wrinkle resistant clothing that is breathable, along with shoes that are easy to remove. Less hassle, specially if you’re wanting to just get to sleep.
Pajamas – absolutely!
I didn’t wear the PJs – just wondering what type of undergarment my be necessary?? The PJs seem a bit thin 🙂
I’ll wear them at home
I’ll just wear what I usually wear when I sleep. Just my undies.
I’m more likely to just dress comfortably for the long flight. But I’m usually riding in coach, so no where to easily change.
I have several sets of the pajamas from recent flights, and find that they bulge in an awkward area. So I don’t wear them on the plane…
You bet I’d wear the pajamas!
I would wear my own clothes but take the pajamas home!
Will have a first first class trip in a couple of days. Will HAVE to wear the pijamas for a picture 🙂
Most definitely keep my clothes on!
I would take the pajamas home and wear it there, but sleep in street clothes on the plane.
For some reason I rather dress comfortably.
Own clothes & save the PJs for home.
I’d wear the PJ’s if they fit . . .
You bet I would wear them!!
I’d give the PJs a whirl
I for sure would wear them, especially if the flight was more than 5 hours
Of course I would wear them.
Dont wear the pajamas..I dress comofortably in my own clothes and sleep in those..Dont weary pajamas at home so why be different on a plane..
I always wear the pajamas and I always feel like a fool.
absolutely wear the pjs 🙂
PJs for sure
PJs? Sure, I’ll wear them!
Comfy clothes
I would wear them, so long as they fit!
Probably comfy clothes.
Heck, I would use the PJs! Isn’t that what they are there for?
Definitely wear the jammies! Nothing more comfy than that!
Sleep in my own comfy clothes. Wear pjs at the hotel when I land.
Probably wear my own clothes but that would be a game day decision.
FYI, the ipod docking station you’ve identified in the F class photo is actually a handheld remote control for the suite. The AA rep clarified during the MegaDO presentation since many thought it was an ipod docking station.
i’d wear the pjs
I’d wear the jammies, if they’re cute.
Without hesitation i’d wear the pajamas. In fact, I actually changed into a pair of PJ’s on a recent AA flight that didn’t offer pjs.
pijamas !!
I would wear the pajamas and change back to normal clothes near landing. Then you arrive fresh and ready to take on the day!
No way I am wearing the PJ’s!
I would wear it. Its better to sleep in comfortable clothing.
PJs
Of course I’d wear them…thats why they give them to you!
definitely wear them! i just hope the bathrooms are big enough to change comfortably.
Unless they have XXL Tall size, I will remain in my clothes and spare the passengers a showing of some skin.
Gotta wear them! Flying is an experience!
PJ’s of course
My last Virgin flight to London I got Red Virgin branded socks in my goodie bag. Tacky as they are, I still wear ’em today. So yeah I would totally wear the PJs. When in Rome…
Yes to PJS! Can travel in appropriate clothing (Upgrade? Yes, please!) and then get comfy. Makes less laundry, too.
I love PJ. it’s so comfortable!
yes, I would wear the pjs!
def go with my own clothes
I would take them with me and wear them.
I would wear the pajamas if there is a decent place to change! If it is just a normal (SMALL) lav not worth the contortions of trying the change without letting ANY clothing touch the (nasty/sticky) lav floor!
I’d wear them if it was a very long flight.
id prefer to just stay in my own clothes, but for a long haul I could probably be convinced to change into them.
I can’t be bothered carrying my own, but I’d supplied I would wear them
I would definitely wear them.
Totally going with the PJ’s. As much as it might seem like a slumber party I like not having to pack extra clothes in my carry on bag. That’s why amenity kits are so great!
I would definitely wear the pjs.
I’d rock the pjs!
Pajamas…
Probably rock the PJs! I mean I normally fly long distance in scub bottoms and a tshit, if they gave me Pjs I could instead wear regular clothes and then change
pjs
Yes
I would dress comfortably before I got on the flight.
Yeah, Only on a red-eye flight and I’m sitting next to my wife. Don’t want to end up on You Tube!
Own clothing
