Today is the start of oneworld member Qantas’s non-stop service between Dallas/Ft. Worth and Australia. If you’re passing through Terminal D at DFW, look for the big red and white 747-400 parked at one of the gates. Qantas Flight 8 (the American codeshare is 7375) travels from DFW to Brisbane and then on to Sydney. Because the eastbound flight is with the jetstream, the return flight is able to take advantage of increased fuel efficiency and fly direct from Sydney to DFW.

The total distance of the 19 hour flight from Dallas to Brisbane is 8,303 miles making it the sixth longest non-stop flight.   The 13 hour, 8,578 mile return flight from Sydney to Dallas will be direct, making it the third longest non-stop flight.  According to MileCalc you’ll earn 17,381 total round-trip AAdvantage Miles.

Effective Monday 16 May 2011, Qantas will start flying from Dallas/Fort Worth to Brisbane and on to Sydney four times a week. On your return, fly nonstop from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth.
