American Airlines tour of the new Boeing 777-300ER

American’s new 777-300ER will make its maiden passenger flight tonight when it departs DFW for Sao Paulo. To celebrate the special occasion American invited a few customers, media, and employees to tour the new plane.

I’m still sorting through the more than 200 photos I took from the event, but I thought I would show you some of the highlights of coach…..

Just kidding!

Here are some photos from the event and of the First Class cabin (I’ll post the photos of Business Class and the Main Cabin separately)…

American had some treats to give away. These are the same cookies that American will have for passengers on the inaugural flight.

Here’s the brand new plane parked at the gate.  It attracted a lot of attention.  Lots of people stopped by the window to snap a photo or to see the new logo.

Free Wifi

This is a big day for American. The plane is beautiful! Lots of features in the front and back of the plane to improve the travel experience.

American plans to take delivery of 15 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft through 2014 and each of them will come configured with international wifi. American has also announced that from now through March they’re offering free wifi on their new 777-300ER flights:

Every customer can also stay productive and connected onboard. The 777-300ER is the first aircraft in American’s fleet to offer international Wi-Fi, enabling customers to remain connected throughout the flight, whether over land or over water. To celebrate the new international Wi-Fi service, American will offer complimentary inflight Internet access through March on all flights operated with the new 777-300ER aircraft. In addition, all customers will have access to individual 110-volt AC power outlets and USB jacks for charging personal electronic devices.

In fact, the @AmericanAir team will be tweeting and posting photos from the maiden flight. So you can follow along on Twitter and Instagram using the hastag #newAmerican.

  1. Very nice. Looking forward to flying it in the summer from LHR to JFK. Any word when we’ll be seeing updated pajamas, slippers, bedding etc with the new logo?

    1. @ Chris – I asked about that and they told me “soon” but nothing specific. Great question, thanks for asking!

  2. I’m a *A flyer, but this looks very exciting. You got some nice photos with many interesting details.

Very narrow videos, I might add… but that happens to everyone at one point. 😉

  3. Looks great — actually the sleek designs and lighting remind me of an understated version of something one might encounter on Virgin America or Virgin Atlantic. (Not to say they’re copying, it is just nice to see what appears to be some attention to detail and design.) The F seat looks very nice and I love the idea of being able to swivel to a real work surface.

  4. Espresso and cappuccino will only be offered to the eight passengers seated in First Class. This amenity will not be offered in Business Class due to the increased seating in that cabin.

  5. @ Hua – You’re right. The photos don’t do a good job of showing it, but almost every surface that a passenger might encounter is nicely textured: from the refrigerator doors of the self serve refreshment bar to the armrest in the main cabin.

And they also spent a lot of time on details: there are mirrors in the overhead storage compartments so that it’s easier to see the inside lip and less likely that you’ll leave something behind.

  6. @ Andre – Thanks! I was using my iPhone for video….I think it’s time I get a real video camera! 🙂
