    1. Good suggestion. I checked to see what a September, mid-week compact rental would cost LA and the best price I was able to find was roughly $110 per day, which works out to 1.36 cents per mile.

I have to admit I’m not that savy when it comes to car rentals. I’ve never fully understood the intricacies of rates, surcharges, fees, and taxes that they don’t display with the price quote well enough to makes sense of their pricing, so I’m sure that in the end, $110 per day is more like $150.

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but right now I’m a big fan of the 2,000 AAdvantage Miles, 25% discount rental offer from Avis. It’s for 3 or more days and expires at the end of the year. Avis also has a 5.000 AAdvantage Miles, 25% discount offer for rentals of 5 days or more days. You have to make the reservation by the end of August, and the qualifying rental periods has to occur between August 15 and December 15, 2011, so unless you can plan that far ahead or rent a car for that length of time, it may not be all that useful.

      Thanks for bringing it up.
