American is celebrating 70 years of serving Mexico and to mark the occasion they’re offering a pretty big fare sale and double AAdvantage Miles.

Mexico is one of American’s largest markets and their 70th Anniversary is a big event. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City noted their 70 years of service and published press release with some interesting facts, such as:

American Airlines’ first flight to Mexico on September 8, 1942, flew from Dallas to Monterrey and onward to Mexico City.

I’ve been watching fares from DFW to Mexico City for about a year and the fare is as low as I’ve seen it since 2010. I’m finding fares for around $340 round-trip.

I’ve not tracked fares from other cities, so I’m not sure if the Mexico deals are as good elsewhere, but if you’re planning a trip to Mexico this Winter, now may be the time to buy. The details:

Save when you purchase your tickets by November 6, 2012, and start travel between September 4, 2012, and March 2, 2013! All travel needs to be complete by March 7, 2013.

American is also offering discounted Business Class fares. An example: New York – Cancun for $808:

Mexico awaits with special Business Class prices! Purchase your tickets by November 6, 2012, and start travel between September 4, 2012, and March 2, 2013, and save! All travel needs to be complete by March 7, 2013.

When I use the promotion code it says not valid. Is it just me or are others also getting this error?

@ Aaron – I was able to register for the offering using the MX70A promo code, but after I registered I received this message:

You are now registered for the SANTY promotion. To earn the bonus or the incentive offered, you must meet all of the requirements associated with this promotion.

I found a thread on FlyerTalk where others report having the same issue. I’ve reached out to the AAdvantage team and asked them to look into it, I’ll post an update when I hear back from them.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
