Hey AAGEEK.. Problem.. maybe you can help me (im sitting the in AA lounge now) Im crossing my fingers for the upgrade to JFK LAX !
So in may, i got the offer for instant gold until august unless i flew 6k miles through Aug, So i booked a flight to hawaii for vaca round trip… So i knew i would be well within the 6k to keep status until feb 2015. .. thing is my mother decided to fly to japan with me but NOT on AA or a codeshare.. so now im at 5k miles (jfk-LIH).. and im 1k short… I have my return LIH->JFK still in tact (july 10th departure) but will not fly it. I know I wont be on the flight so I wont get the miles, I called the AA desk and they wont make an exception, Do you have any ideas? I fly AA to medical school in greneda as they are the only airline that really flys down there.. anyways any help or suggestions would be appreciated. If you need clarification, let me know.

if I take Iberia to Madrid vs. AA, would I be able to use my AA systemwide upgrade on Iberia? i am thinking no but pls let me know if I am wrong. Thank you!
@ AA newbie – Sorry, it won’t work on Iberia. Your systemwide upgrade requires you to be on an American Airlines operated flight. Hope you enjoy Madrid!
