So, it is not valid on rental in city location? Must I use AA cc to pay for the rental car or I can use any other cc?
@ globe trotter – No, only valid with an airport location. Most of these rental deals have the requirement, which is really pretty lame. On the upside, you can use any credit card you like.
@ jamesdmo – You bring up a very good point and some solid advice.
Another reader and I had an exchange about that very topic back when they were offering 5K miles. He had a choice between saving $120 or spending the extra money to earn the miles (2.4 cents per mile).
A lot of times it’s better to save the money unless you’re traveling on expense account.
One data point on this: the best I could do on this offer for a week in Calgary, Alberta (potential 3,000 mile bonus) was a full $50 higher than best rates found elsewhere. So, for me, it was a choice of whether to spend 1.6 cents per mile or not. Be sure to compare alternatives before jumping on this.
The end date is april 30th. Does this mean the rental has to be returned by that date, or start by that date. I have a rental need the week of April 29th to the 4th and just wondering if the return after the 30th makes this promo invalid, or if by picking up on the 29th it will work.
@ Drool – I called Budget and spoke with a reservations agent. She was able to validate the offer on a SFO rental that started April 29 with a May 4 return.
She told me that if the May 4 return had disqualified me from earning the miles the reservation system would have generated an error when she tried to apply it to my reservation.
So it seems that the offer is valid as long as you start the rental on or before April 30. Thanks for asking the question!
