oneworld MegaDo giveway: Double Elite Qualifying Miles and Mileage Runners
Congratulations to Naif, the winner of yesterday’s oneworld MegaDo Giveaway! I guess I should also congratulate DFW, LAX, and Miami. All three airports tied as readers’ favorite American Airlines Cornerstone hub.
The other day I was on a flight and I’m sitting in an exit row seat, the middle seat next to me was empty, and there’s a guy sitting next to the window.
After we land, the guy grabs his backback from under the seat in front of him, and I happen to notice that he has a milepoint luggage tag on his backpack.
So I ask him if he’s on a mileage run and he tells me yes and we start to talk about how many elite qualifying miles he’s racked up this year.
There’s a guy standing across the aisle from us that hears what we’re talking about and he joins in on the conversation. He tells us he’s been on that same 737 multiple times and that he was beginning to recognize some of the other mileage runners. He kept running into some of them in airport and up in the air.
We exit the airplane and the first guy (shout out to K!) had a tight turnaround so he headed off to catch a flight.
So the second guy and I head off to the food court to get something to eat.
Later I find out that he’s the blogger behind The Frequent Flyer Collector and that he’s on a quest to earn Executive Platinum.
He’s making use of the system wide Double Elite Qualifying Miles offer and by the end of the month he will have been on 9 trips and will be within 5,000 miles of reaching his goal. He’ll probably make Executive Platinum just after the first of February!
We talk about the Double Elite Qualifying Miles promotion and whether or not American will extended it after it expires at the end of the month. He doesn’t think it will, but he does think that we may see it come back later in the year.
If I had to guess, I’d say that he’s probably right. I think American will wait and see what happens to travel demand before they rush off and extend it.
Of course, that hasn’t stopped people from speculating. There’s even this mysterious promo code being discussed in a thread on one of the forums. There’s absolutely no reason to believe that’s it legit, so don’t go and book any February mileage runs just yet.
So, that brings us to today’s giveaway.
To celebrate the first ever oneworld MegaDo, I’m giving away a different prize in a random drawing each day this week!
Even if you’re not going to the oneworld MegaDo, this your chance to win some AAdvantage Geek gear.

Good luck in the drawing!!
My guess is probably not.
Lord I hope so! I think they will extend it until February 29 in honor of Leap Year.
I doubt it. I do expect it to return later in the year though.
I doubt that they’ll extend it because they run the risk of appearing to devalue the program. But I hope that they bring it back soon!
They will wait and offer again later in the year. Nothing in February as they want to judge normal demand.
Probably not…but you never know 🙂
But seriously — if you couldn’t get status with all the DEQM offerings this year, you’re not really trying very hard!
God I hope so!
Doubt it, but here’s hoping!
I doubt they will extend the current promotion. Perhaps it will make a return later in the year.
Hopefully! Preferably in fall for my travel plans.
Yes.. Sure will be generating some good revenues ..will help them specially during this bankruptcy period….
I don’t think they will, as it would (at least appear to) devalue the program.
Definitely ! They need to do that to try to attract as many FF from other airlines
I doubt it. If it happens, it would be for specific routes
Extend? NO Return? Hopefully. I too have been seeing a lot of Mileage Runners on the the SFO – ORD flights that I have been taking on my way to EXP.
I would love to say, “Yes” but I’m afraid the promotion will have an end, all too soon.
I don’t so
I certainly hope so.. i’d love to make an international trip (couple) to requalify for my EP
Most likely not, but probably offer again later in the year.
Doubtful but I would not mind them bringing it back as I would make the jump from Plat to Exec Plat if they do!
i don’t think they will extend it.
I hope so, we’ll see . . .
I don’t think they will extend immediately but I am certain they will come out with an offer to celebrate the Olympics and their new trans-Atlantic cooperation with IAG, especially if the merger goes through with BMI.
I’d love it, but highly doubt it
Doubtful, but I agree that it will probably be back
Extend no. Back by popular demand shortly later? Yes.
Not extended, more targeted offers, end of year systemwide for sure.
nope!
I hope so, but I do not think sp.
No
I doubt it! B- how is the DO so far?
not a chance….. grab it while it lasts!
I sure hope so and if it is in October, so muach better!
I don’t think so…
