Sneak Preview of the New American Airlines Amenity Kit

It was about a year ago that American began the process of improving the customer experience, and one of the first things they did was introduce new premium cabin amenity kits.

Now that they’re about to update the American Airlines brand and take delivery of new aircraft, they thought it was time to upgrade the amenity kits again.

Just like the one it replaces, this new kit was designed by Eames Office, but in an effort to make the new one more useful it was designed so that it can be used as an iPad case!

Something else that’s different is that unlike the previous kit, the new kit doesn’t display the “American Airlines” text as logo, or the American Airlines “Scissor Eagle” or “AA” branding: it simply reads “American” in Helvetica.

The new kits become available early next month.

You’ll also be able to find one on this blog when I give one away in December during the AAdvantage Geek Holiday Reader Giveaway!

  1. American clearly gets that technology is important to their customers: powerports and wifi on their planes, being able to view streaming movies and TV shows on your own devices, amenity kits that double as iPad cases, mobile apps for iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, even Palm OS….I was at LGA recently and noticed that every seat at the gate had a USB charging port.

They’ve really put a lot of thought into how customers use and value technology during the travel experience, and it shows.

  2. We received another new version of the Eames amenity kit flying business class from Miami to Buenos Aires this week. I do like this new one better than the previous one. They have also updated their flatware and menu. Pic here: http://goo.gl/06uB2

    1. @ Chris – Wow, thanks for photo! Looks more substantial that the one it replaces. I guess that they’re planning to have separate amenity kits for first and business class.

What did you think of the new dining service?

  3. I just posted more pics on your latest thread. The dining service was good, the tableware is modern and sleek. I do prefer the new amenity kits over the previous ones, they just felt kind of flimsy and I didn’t like the zipper on them. Now if we could just get the new 777-300 business class cabin to go with it, I’d be very happy.

  4. @ Chris – Thanks for sending posting them in the other thread! I have a buddy that’s dating an AA flight attendant based out of LA and she’s been in and out of DFW two or three times in the last few weeks training for the new meal service. It’s supposed to be a big change in the way the present and serve the food.

It’s good to see AA putting such an emphasize on service, but your right, it will be better when we have a new 777-300 to go along with it!

Thanks again for sharing your photos!
