Just in case you missed Gary’s post yesterday on this topic, Destination David started a thread over at Milepoint about some changes to American’s domestic First Class meal service.

For starters, they’ve added several new items to their full meal menu. A few of the dishes are the same ones they serve on international flights.

The other thing they’ve done, and this a big change, is to create several new dishes that are smaller in portion and exclusive to their snack service.

Previously, there’s been little difference between American’s lunch service and their snack service: the food was the same in size and offerings.

Now a snack is exactly that: a snack. Almost tasting menu portions or a Super Model meal.

One of the conveniences of the old system was that you’re were guaranteed a decently sized meal no matter the time of day or where you were going.

I can see how someone coming from the West cost and connecting to an East coast flight at DFW or ORD might end up on a snack flight even though to them it’s the lunch hour.

So now the kind of meal service is something to keep in mind when you’re booking a flight.

It’s still much more than some other airlines offer. Delta just give out chips, energy bars, or fruit. I’m not sure about United, but I think that they have some flights where all they offer are items from a snack basket, but I could be wrong about that.

Anyway, all of the food looks good, or at least interesting.  I’d like to try the Chicken Pot Pie wrap, the Steak and Egg Salad, and the Cold Soba Noodle Salad with Shrimp and Asparagus.

Here’s a look.  See anything you’d like to try?

  1. The Moroccan chicken is decent- had that for lunch last night. Had to palate two of the quinoa & lemon thyme chicken salads… not sure I agree with the introduction of asparagus into them.

  2. I had the curry chicken saffron with quinoa last night on an evening flight from MIA to YYZ and it was delicious!

    1. @ jonathan – I had it on a flight to SFO a few weeks ago, and I liked it too! A big improvement over the same old BBQ chicken salad. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your review!
