    1. @ fauxblogger – You have to get it in advance of travel. This is from the US State Department website.

Brazil requires U.S. citizens to carry a valid U.S. passport and visa when traveling to Brazil for any purpose. You must obtain your Brazilian visa in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate nearest to your place of residence in the United States. There are no “airport visas” and immigration authorities will refuse entry into Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa.

      Thanks for the question!

  1. It’s quite likely you will need to also get a yellow fever vaccine in advance to a trip to Manaus, Amazonas state, something the Brazilian customs agent may hold you accountable for.
The vaccine is either considered mandatory or highly recommended for a handful of Brazilian states, and Amazonas, in the heart of the jungle, has gotta be one.

    1. @ Scottrick – Cold and dark sounds good, it’s hot and dry here in DFW. It’ll be nicer in October. Hope to see you then!

  2. Have you ever been to MAO before? It is a horrible city. If you go, get on a boat and head into the amazon as soon as you can.

    1. @ alan – LOL, thanks for the unvarnished travel review of Manaus!

If you spend any time in the Milepoint forums you’ve probably met Eloy da Fonseca Neto. Eloy is from Brazil and lives in Rio. I asked him about Manaus and he said pretty much the same thing. I get the impression that Manaus is the Lubbock of Brazil. 🙂
