Electricity provider Bounce Energy has started offering customers in Texas 1 AAdvantage Mile for every dollar they spend on their monthly electric bill (up to $200), plus an option to earn 1,000  bonus AA miles if they choose to sign up for a 12 or 24 month fixed rate plan.

Here’s how they explain their variable rate offer:

Earn AAdvantage Miles by Paying Your Electricity Bill

Through the AAdvantage Rewards program, members can redeem miles for flights to almost 950 destinations worldwide as well as other awards including flight upgrades, vacation packages, car rentals, hotel stays and other retail products. You will earn 1 mile for each $1 you spend on your Bounce Energy bill as long as you pay your Bounce Energy bill on time! Just opt into the American AAdvantage rewards program when signing up for your new Bounce Energy plan.

Here are the details of their 12 and 24 month electricity plans:

Earn even more miles with our EXCLUSIVE American AAdvantage 12 and American AAdvantage 24 plans and get a great rate plus get an additional 1,000 miles once you pay your 1st 3 bills on-time, and you will earn 1 mile for each $1 paid on-time toward your Bounce Energy bill (up to 200 miles per month).

I’ve read some complaints in some forums and on blogs about how some people have signed up for similar offers from some other electricity providers and then had large rate increases after a month or two of service.  Apparently, many of these companies sign people up with a promotion rate but then don’t explain very well the fact that most customers will see a rate increase after a couple of months of service.   So if you’re thinking about switching energy suppliers, make sure you ask about their standard rates and plans.

To their credit, Bounce Energy does a pretty good job of explaining promotion rates and pricing, and you can read about how it works by going here.
