Doing good and doing well. Support our troops and earn AAdvantage Miles

Last year I was waiting on a flight at DFW’s terminal D: it’s the two-tiered international terminal, with departing passengers boarding at the lower level and arriving passengers exiting flights and clearing immigration on the top level.

I had stepped into the restroom and as I was washing my hands, I heard a loud noise outside the bathroom. At first, I thought it sounded like hail hitting building, which didn’t make any sense because the weather was beautiful that morning.

As I stepped out of the bathroom and went back into open center terminal space, I noticed that everyone in the immediate area was looking up while standing and clapping. It took me a second to process, but then I saw a long line of soldiers walking off a plane and heading toward customs. As they wound around the top level, everyone on the lower level stood and clapped: a wave of people rising as the soldiers moved by overhead. It was an amazing thing to see.

American Airlines has long been a supporter of our active military, the USO, veterans, and the organizations that support our troops and their families. This Veterans Day you can do the same by purchasing an American Airlines – USO Gift Card or by donating $25 to sponsor a Operation USO Care Package.

These are the details of the USO/AA Gift Card offer from American’s Join Us website:

By supporting the USO, you bring a touch of home to our men and women in uniform. And when you give the gift of travel and select the USO Gift Card, American will give $5 for every $50 of travel you purchase to help support the many USO programs and services.

If you’re looking for a way to do good and earn miles, then consider a USO Care Package.

The USO would like to enlist the support of the American Airlines AAdvantage members to sponsor an Operation USO Care Package for our service members deployed overseas.
